Game On
I'm still playing through "Persona 3: FES". I started the game shortly after it's release at the end of April. It's not unusual for me to spend months working my way through an RPG. Even when I'm really into a game, I still make plenty of time for friends, movies, and books, among other things. It took me three months to put my 70 hours into "Magna Carta", so it shouldn't be a shock that I'm still playing P3:FES after two months. The shock resides in how much I've played the game during those two months. After last night's play session, I checked my game time and it was sitting at 118 hours.
118 hours... I was hoping to break my personal record set by the rather awful "Magna Carta", but I didn't expect to shatter it. And while I'm nearing the end of P3:FES, I'm still not near the end of it. I probably have about 20 - 30 hours yet to go, which is a small percentage of P3:FES, but is still a lot of game time.
One of the most amazing things about this tally is how it doesn't feel like I've played the game for 118 hours. Usually around the 40 or 50 hour mark of an RPG, I'm ready to move on and have chosen to skip side quests in favor of finishing up the main story. While there is a small part of me that is ready to play a different game, that feeling is not being driven by P3:FES. When I'm playing P3:FES, there is no other game on my mind and I don't want to stop. The desire to play something else only enters my mind when I hear Erik and Ted talking about the games they are playing currently. Even when I pass my pile of un-played games and see titles that I'm really excited to play, the urge to rush through P3:FES never materializes.
The Game On crew was joking this past weekend about how I'll likely put 150 hours into P3:FES, surpassing the time spent by both Erik and Ted. I just want to go on record and say that is not my goal. I'm usually the guy that tries to finish a game the quickest so I can move onto the next one. However, I do have a goal with P3:FES. My goal is to give it all of the time it deserves. I'm not sure that goal will be accomplished even if I do spend 150 hours playing it.
