Game On
I recently confessed something to the Game On crew and like a good retailer (if confessions were discounts) I'm now passing the savings along to you.
I'm in Limbo-Land. No, I'm on on an island of inhabitants who line up behind one another and attempt one after another to tilt themselves beneath ever-lowering horizontal broomsticks. Rather, I'm stuck between games.
Actually, that's not entirely accurate, either. More true to my own form, amidst playing one game, I've become distracted and lack the desire to go back to it right now. When I get this way, my tendency is to dabble with multiple games for brief stints of time, never really getting anywhere in any of them, ever seeking that special game which will magically grasp my attention and beat it into submission.
I've been trying all sorts of games. Final Fantasy XII. Blue Dragon. Rogue Galaxy. Like a dirty roll of tape, nothing is sticking. Don't misread me - I want to play every one of these games and will eventually. My gut is simply telling me (when I can hear it over the rumble of a hungry stomach) that now is not the time for any of these titles.
I want to play a game, but what do I play? This question was getting to me as late as last night when the answer struck me upside my bald head. Why not delve back into Part Two of Persona 3:FES? (If one believes in fate, they might find it to be the obvious solution, given that Part Two of P3:FES is titled 'The Answer'. Insert answer-right-in-front-of-me quip here.)
I launched my PS3 and (re)loaded The Answer. (Yes, I 're'-loaded it, another tale for another time.) It was, dear Readers, a thing of beauty, like seeing an old friend after a long time. Familiar characters. Familiar voices. Familiar styles of speech. Familiar settings. Familiar battles. Familiar goals. But like an old friend one has not seen in awhile, there are also changes. A new mysterious character. A different story. A new mission. These additions only add to the whole, but beneath the new layers, I still see the game I love.
An hour and a half later, I realized I might have found my next game of choice. I've been sucked right back into this familiar yet modified world. By next week, I may well be telling you all of another distraction, but for the moment, I'm feeling compelled to return to this one to unlock the final answer and spend some time with characters that feel very much like old friends.
