Iconoclast on the Isthmus
In a few short weeks, I'll be starting a new career in the Windy City. Though I'm really excited about the move, I will definitely miss a lot about Madison. I didn't want to limit it to just 10 things, though, so here's the more comprehensive list.
- Dinner at Bluephies and Monty's, two places with great comfort food that doesn't make you queasy.
- The cops who are always hanging out at Triangle Market. Hey, State Street doesn't have a doughnut shop (yet).
- The awesomeness that is Four Star Video Heaven.
- The Madison.com forums, especially the band of characters that haunted it when I first came on board. I'll especially miss Carol ASThompson. Her posts are always entertainingly rant-a-licious - and say what you want, but she stands behind what she says and stays very focused!
- Woodman's. It may drive me crazy to go there - apparently, everyone who does go there is robbed of the logic to walk in a straight line once inside - but the groceries are SOOO cheap.
- James Madison Park. It was awesome to live as close as I did to a beautiful lake side park.
- Chocolate Shoppe ice cream. You can have your Cold Stones and your Ben and Jerry - I'll take the Chocolate Shoppe ice cream. Extra fat, please.
- Sitting at the Union Terrace. I may be slightly misanthropic, but even I like hanging out here from time to time.
- And Monona Terrace. 'Nuff said.
- I'll miss the fact that we have people I like and respect in various levels of government here: Herb Kohl, Russ Feingold, Tammy Baldwin, and Dave Cieslewicz, to name a few. Even if I disagree with her sometimes (often?), I am glad there's a Brenda Konkel to keep people on their toes. I'm glad there are people like Scot Ross working hard to keep our state government honest.
There are probably way more, but those are off the top of my head.
