A Victory for the Troops

The results of the 32 communities across Wisconsin who voted for the Bring the Troops Home Now referendum have clearly sent a message to the President. This was not a referendum on the President, nor was it a referendum on the direction of the Iraq War. This was a referendum on where we want our troops, our sons and daughters, our fathers and mothers, our friends and family. We want them out of Iraq, right now. We want them home and we want them redeployed to better defend our democracy. It is impossible to argue that Wisconsin's resounding support to bring the troops home doesn't support the troops, because our troops want the same thing. In a Zogby poll, our servicemen and women overwhelmingly said they want the same thing?to come home.
Evansville narrowly passed the Bring the Troops Home Now referendum, while rejecting an opposing measure to support "our honorable President's leadership" against "the unfathomable wickedness of the forces of terror" and not leaving Iraq "until unquestioned victory is clearly won." There is no military victory possible in Iraq. The most we can hope for is a diplomatic peace, which we all support. Wisconsin has lost 51 service members in Iraq and further casualties will not, in any way, honor that loss. Twenty-four communities across our state have now joined 76 cities nationwide that have passed similar resolutions. This number will only grow. Milwaukee votes on the Bring the Troops Home Now referendum in November, and more communities will use the template from the Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice to get the initiative on their ballots. The people of Wisconsin have spoken loud and clear. Now, are the powers-that-be listening?
On Thursday's Pro-Show, we seek alternative energy solutions with Prairie Fire Bio-Fuels and we continue our quest to end corruption in our state capital with the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.
