How to Stop Sensenbrenner

Can the Republicans.  The Jefferson/Dodge County Democrats are asking you to collect and save aluminum cans.  On Earth Day, April 22nd, they will recycle the cans and donate the proceeds to cleaning up the environment by removing anti-environment Republicans.  Clean up the government, clean up the environment, and can the Republicans.  For more information on how Dane County can get involved, email Jeff at rammelt@gdinet.com.

According to a new Washington Post/ABC News poll, 45% believe President Bush should be censured.  It's sad that almost half of us support Senator Feingold's proposal, while only two Senators are standing by Feingold's side.  There is no debate that the President violated the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act of 1978.  The only question is whether we permit the President to break his own laws in a time of (unending) war.  Meanwhile, Senator Feingold announced yesterday that he's visiting Iowa, the home of the first Presidential caucus for 2008.  There is a move underway to thank the junior Senator from Wisconsin for fighting for civil liberties by sending his office sunflowers and flags.  The number to do this is 1-800-560-0501 and the deadline is April 24th.  Or you can donate to Feingold's Progressive Patriots Fund and keep your fingers crossed that he will be challenging Senators Clinton and Biden and others in Iowa in 2008.

While we wait for the FDA to make emergency contraception (EC) available over the counter, in Wisconsin you can still get EC in advance.  It's easy:  1-866-EC-FIRST.  Religious zealots have inexplicably begun to argue that contraception violates the tenets of their faith.  EC prevents unwanted pregnancies and unwanted abortions.  What's the problem?  Milwaukee is the second-worst among the 50 largest U.S. cities in percentage of teenage births and the fourth-highest rate of children under 18 living in poverty.  Making family planning available to every woman in Wisconsin is one essential part of the solution.  The Wisconsin Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association (WFPRHA) is holding a teen pregnancy prevention conference in Milwaukee this week.  Yesterday, Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager received the Outstanding Elected Official of 2006 for her opposition to the Republican proposal to prohibit the university system from distributing emergency contraception and her lawsuit against the FDA for not making EC available over the counter.

If you're upset over Representative James Sensenbrenner's xenophobic opposition to undocumented workers or his refusal to allow Democrats to some much as hold hearings on pre-war intelligence, warantless wiretaps, etc., then do something about it.  Sensenbrenner's challenger is Democrat Bryan Kennedy.  Kennedy is going to need statewide support for a chance to defeat the man who redrew his own voting district in 2000.  On Thursday's Pro-Show, we will speak with the Democratic candidate challenging U.S. Representative Tom Petri, Vic Spadaro.  We will also speak with the Madison Area Community Land Trust about affordable housing in Madison and their Troy Gardens project.  Troy Gardens will have 30 mixed-income, energy efficient townhomes.  If you thought you couldn't afford to live in Madison and still "live simply", wait until you hear from our Madison Area Community Land Trust.
