Tea in the Yahara
If you're anything like everybody and his brother, you're already gettin' geared up for tomorrow night's show at the High Noon Saloon. (Who knows? Maybe you even managed to win tickets.) That's when and where you'll find ex-Drive-By Trucker Jason Isbell playing, supported by Nashville's own Will Hoge.
But the aspect of that show that I find most compelling is the inclusion of the relatively unknown Dawn Landes, who's drawn (yes, the inevitable) comparisons to Feist, Joanna Newsom, and Cat Power, to name but a few. As noted over at Dane101, Landes also boasts something of a Madison connection, having worked in the past with ex-Madisonians (and current fellow New Yorkers) Rainer Maria.
Back in September of 2006, UNCUT called Landes's music "a nostalgic mix of junk-shop pop, 10-dollar folk guitars, glistening glockenspiels and fuzzy retroelectronica," marked by "odd, boho lyrics -- many of which sound as if they've been made up on the spot -- with an offhand insouciance."
Insouciance? I am so there.
In the meantime, feel free to gank the mp3 of "Bodyguard," the first single from Landes's latest, Fireproof. You can also preview some of the rest of her work -- casually, of course -- over at (ugh) MySpace.
Update from the Department of Neglect: Kyle's giving away tickets to the show, too. Chop-chop.
