Mad Art Scenes
For those of us just looking for an excuse to go to the windy city this month, here's a good one: free admission all month at the Art Institute of Chicago to their permanent collection (see next paragraph, though), and free and reduced admission to the Shedd Aquarium this week. That's right, for a short time admission is done Madison-style, that is free. Which means you can eat at the restaurants downtown, be able to pay Mayor Daley's stiff taxes on everything, and even have some left over.
Of course for the real art lovers there are two not-to-miss exhibitions: the nationally traveling show "Edward Hopper" and the Chicago only show "Winslow Homer: The Color of Light." For these special exhibitions you have to pay an entrance fee that is about half for this month. The Shedd is free for its original galleries but you'll still have to pay a fee for the Oceanarium and the Lizards display.
Of course admission to Madison's art museums and zoos is free
all the time, which is a great asset, now you can take advantage of
this enjoyed local perk in another city
