A Request, No A Plea, To MMO Players

While not a true veteran of the genre, I've been playing MMORPGs for a few years. I started playing "Final Fantasy XI" in 2004. I started playing "World of Warcraft" in 2006. I made a smooth transition back to FFXI and added "Guild Wars" in 2007. I've seen thousands and thousands of players walk past me. Some have had some wonderful names. Others? Not so much.

Look... it's a fantasy world. Or it's a space-traveling world. Or it's some other kind of world that has a very specific mythology to it. I'm pretty sure that a family in the world of Azeroth would not name their kid FaceKrushher. I'm also sure you don't see too many space pirates named NYGiantsFan. And I'm totally positive that if the world of Vana'Diel were real, there would not be any elves named Clowd or Sefirawth. This last one offends me the most. If you can't spell the name the way it was intended to be spelled, then find another name. Someone beat you to it. Move on.

This is your character, not your license plate. Show them some respect.
