Game On
Movie tie-in games are well-known to be avoided. The development cycles of these game are rushed in order to be released along side the feature film. While there are always exceptions to the rule, it is a safe bet to pass-on-by the likes of Iron Man: The Game, The Matrix: Enter The Matrix and Open Season. Up until the PS1 version of Spider-man came out, comic-book license were suffering the same fate. There are still terrible super-hero games (I'm looking at you Wolverine's Revenge!!), but thankfully the amount of good ones have risen.
I'm still amazed that some franchises don't have a good game out yet. Here is a quick list of games that desperately need a great video game.
-
Cloverfield. While the game probably wouldn't be told from the perspective of the characters from the film, the good news is that New York is a big place. The developers could track out a path of destruction for the Monster (that follows along with the movie timeline) and then create a lot of little scenarios of different survivors. Instead of playing one person, the gamer would take control of 10 to 12 people and how they escaped (or didn't escaped, as the case may be) the city. While there is only one big monster the characters will still have to deal with rioting mobs, traverse destruction, and even deal with the mites.

Battlestar Galactica. I know there is an Xbox Live Arcade game, but frankly, it is boring. I'm also aware of the last-gen game, but that one is based on the 1970s show. I want a game based on the current BSG on Sci-Fi. Spaceships, guns and evil robots... what more could any video game want?
-
Firefly. I think I heard rumors of a Firefly MMO many years back. The idea sounded pretty cool, but what I'm really looking for is an interactive Sci-Fi/Western adventure. Starship battles, horseback gunfights and bank robberies.
-
Sin City. I've enjoyed the Sin City comics for years. Frank Miller tells gritty, noir-style stories using only B&W mixed, at times, with a single color. The Robert Rodriguez movie did an amazing job at capturing the feel from the comics. With some of the cell-shading I've seen lately, I could only imagine that a Sin City game would be beautiful. It would also be pretty gory, but beautiful none-the-less.
-
El Mariachi. Speaking of Robert Rodriguez, The El Mariachi series could be translated well to video games. While Total Overdose (and the PSP game, Chili Con Carnage) are fun, the idea of an actual endorsed Rodriguez film-to-game adaption would be exciting.
-
Any Horror Movie. I really can't understand why we don't have a good horror-movie licensed game on the market yet. I'm sure someone out there could make good game featuring either Jason or Freddy. Whats the hold-up?
What am I'm missing? Please add your should-be-a-video-game franchise in the comments below.
UPDATE: While not an actual Sin City game, you can still see the heavy influence in the newly announced MadWorld
