Q — How can I order home delivery of The Capital Times newspaper?

Q — What if I didn’t receive my newspaper?
A —If you experience a problem with your newspaper delivery, you should call customer service at (608) 252-6363 or (800) 362-8333.

Q — Can I search back issues of The Capital Times on the Internet? How far back do the archives go?
A —The electronic archives - which date to 1989 and include staff-written stories from the Wisconsin State Journal and The Capital Times - are available on madison.com. Photographs, maps, graphics and illustrations are not included with the stories. Searching is free, but a $1.95 charge per full-text article download is assessed. Payment for articles may be completed on an article-by-article basis with a MasterCard or Visa account; if you download articles frequently, you may wish to establish an account through NewsLibrary’s Passport service. For assistance with the archives, call (800) 896-5587. You also can use a commercial fee-based database service such as DataTimes (800-642-2525), Dialog (800-334-2564) or NEXIS (800-227-4908) to access stories.

Q — Can I purchase or download copies of photos that appeared in Capital Times articles?
A —You may purchase exhibit-quality prints of photographs that appeared in Capital Times articles through Merlin-Net.

Q — Can I purchase back issues of the print edition?
A —The Madison Newspapers Inc. circulation department retains back issues of the print edition of The Capital Times for one year to date. To order a back copy, contact the circulation department at (608) 252-6363 or (800) 362-8333. If you are looking for an edition older than one year, you should check with your local library or university, which may retain microfilm copies.

Q — How do I send a letter to the editor?

Q — What is the relationship between The Capital Times, Wisconsin State Journal and Madison Newspapers Inc.?
A — The Capital Times is a locally-owned company. The Wisconsin State Journal is one of the properties of Lee Enterprises, a national media corporation. The Capital Times and Lee Enterprises each own half of Madison Newspapers Inc., which handled advertising, production, distribution and administrative functions for the two daily newspapers. Madison Newspapers contracts with Lee Enterprises to provide the content of the morning and Sunday newspapers and with The Capital Times Company to provide content for the evening newspaper. The newsroom employees of The Capital Times are employed by The Capital Times Company and are independent of the State Journal or Lee Enterprises.

Madison Newspapers also publishes a number of other publications, including the daily newspapers in Baraboo and Portage and Agriview. It also runs a major commercial printing operation.

Q —What type of content can I find at captimes.com that I won’t find in the print edition of The Capital Times?
A —Often, Web-based information modules will be created to supplement and enhance the print version of The Capital Times. In addition, online interactive forums are sometimes posted to captimes.com in conjunction with stories in the print edition of the newspaper.

Q —What content from The Capital Times print edition is not available at captimes.com?
A —Not all of the stories that appear in the print edition of The Capital Times appear on captimes.com. Editors make daily decisions about what will and won’t be published to captimes.com; however, all staff-written stories are added to the searchable archives. Letters to the editor, legal notices and marriage and divorce notices do not appear on the Web site.

Q —How can I find the stories I want at captimes.com?
A — The captimes.com home page is updated every morning between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Stories less than a month old are available to all users and may be found on the index pages such as Local News and Business. To find a story that was not published to captimes.com or that is older than one month, you may search the archives.

Q —May I repost a Capital Times article on my Web site?
A —Anything appearing on captimes.com is intended for the personal use of users of the captimes.com only. While you may interact with or download a single copy of any portion of the Content for your personal, non-commercial entertainment, information or use, you may not reproduce, sell, publish, distribute, modify, display, repost or otherwise use any portion of the content in any other way or for any other purpose. Requests regarding use of the content for any purpose other than personal, non-commercial use should be directed to phaslanger@madison.com.

Q —Are obituaries available on captimes.com?
A —Both paid obituaries and births and deaths notices are available at captimes.com. A list of births and deaths in the Madison area are updated Monday through Saturday, and an archive dating from July 2000 is maintained. You also may read today’s obituaries, which are paid death notices supplied by the family of the deceased. There is a one-week archives of paid obituaries.

Q —Where do I find information about dining, movies, nightlife, events and other entertainment listings online?
A —Rhythm, Madison’s complete entertainment source, provides searchable information about the city’s cultural scene.

Q —How do I get my event listed in Rhythm?
A —You may e-mail press releases concerning entertainment events to rhythm@madison.com.

A —Classifieds reside on madison.com. There is a link to madison.com on the left side of every page.

Q —Can I search for a classified ad in the archive?
A —You will find the current day and the previous six days of classifieds on madison.com. If an ad is no longer running in the print edition of the newspaper, you will need to order a back copy of the print edition to find the ad. (See Can I purchase back issues of the print edition? above.)
