What's Brewin': Hit or miss

HIT OR MISS

Fantasy info from the Brewers-Cubs series

*** HIT Brewers' right fielder Corey Hart singled, walked, scored a run, drove in a run and stole his first two bases of the season Wednesday. After reaching the 20-20 mark in home runs (24) and stolen bases (23-of-30) last season, Hart is one of four Brewers poised for a 30-30 season.

*** MISS Cubs reliever Bob Howry allowed two runs and three hits on Wednesday and has a staggering 11.57 ERA in two appearances this season. With Kerry Wood also struggling out of the bullpen on Opening Day, Carlos Marmol, who struck out three of the four batters he faced Monday, should be move to the head of the pack.

*** HIT After catcher Jason Kendall went 3-for-4 on Wednesday with one run scored and two RBI and a stolen base from the ninth hole in the Brewers lineup, maybe there was something to that off-season surgery on his eyes after all.

*** MISS Howry wasn't the only pitcher to blame for the Cubs' 8-2 loss Wednesday. Chicago's bullpen overall was inept. It allowed three earned runs, 12 of the 25 batters faced to reach base, two wild pitches and a balk in 4 1/3 innings.

*** HIT First baseman Derrek Lee went 2-for-4 with a homer in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers. Cubs' fans are hoping now that he's a full year away from his wrist problems that his power production will more resemble 2006 than 2007.

*** MISS Cubs starter Ted Lilly failed to survive the fifth inning in Wednesday's loss to the Brewers. While he struck out four and didn't walk a batter, he needed 77 pitches to last 4 2/3 innings in which Milwaukee ripped him for four runs on five hits including Rickie Weeks' home run on the first pitch of the game.
