Statistical
notes from the Brewers' 7-0 victory over San Francisco at Miller
Park on Sunday afternoon on Prince Fielder Bobblehead
Day:
** It was hard to believe that Ben
Sheets had not pitched a shutout in seven years. But his five-hit
complete game gem with eight strikeouts was his second career
shutout and first since he blanked St. Louis 7-0 on May 29, 2001.
Sunday's effort was also his 14th career complete game.
Sheets, clocked at 97 miles per hour in the first inning,
allowed only one hit over the final five innings. That was an
infield single by Fred Lewis in the sixth inning. Sheets threw 109
pitches, including 78 for strikes.
* J.J.
Hardy ended his 0-for-8 hitless streak with an RBI double off Barry
Zito in the second inning. Hardy was 1-for-2 with two walks
today.
* San Francisco catcher Stephen
Holm collected his first career Major League hit when he singled in
the second inning off Sheets.
* Gabe
Kapler belted his second home run in two days when he launched a
3-2 pitch from Zito over the left field wall in the fifth inning.
It traveled an estimated 397 feet.
* Ryan
Braun also connected on a solo blast off Zito in the fifth inning.
He blasted a 1-2 pitch into the left field bleachers for his second
home run, also in two days. Braun finished 3-for-5 with three RBI.
His home run traveled 419 feet.
* Corey
Hart reached base safely in all four of his at-bats. He reached
base on an error, single, single and hit-by-pitch. He finished
2-for-3 with two runs scored.
* Prince
Fielder has hit safely in all six games this season. He was 1-for-4
with a double today.
* The Brewers have
scored first in all six games this season.
* Milwaukee has swept a three-game series from the Giants in
each of the last two seasons. The Brew Crew took three straight
games from San Francisco at Miller Park from June 18-20,
2007.
* With today's sellout crowd of
44,014, the Brewers established a new team record during the
three-game opening series by drawing an attendance of 119,800. The
previous attendance record for the Brewers' first three home games
of a season was 116,752 from April 6-8, 2001. Those were the first
three games ever played at Miller Park.
The Brewers have an off day on Monday before continuing their
six-game, seven-day homestand on Tuesday with their first night
game of the season. Milwaukee hosts the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday,
Wednesday and Thursday. Tuesday's matchup (7:05 p.m., Miller Park,
FSN Wisconsin) will feature Brewers RHP Jeff Suppan (1-0, 2.84)
against Reds RHP Johnny Cueto (1-0, 1.29).
