What's Brewin': Hit or miss

Dennis Semrau  —

HIT OR MISS

Fantasy stats from the Brewers-Reds series through April 9

*** HIT

Brewers' catcher Jason Kendall extended his hitting streak to six games Wednesday with a double in the third inning. He also had an infield single in the fifth. He is batting .667 (8-for-12) during the current home stand and has four multi-hit games this season.

*** MISS

Following Wednesday's game, Milwaukee placed center fielder Tony Gwynn Jr. on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to April 4 with a strained left hamstring. Gwynn was hitting .571. He will be replaced by infielder Hernan Iribarren, who was recalled from Triple A Nashville.

*** HIT

Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips has hit safely in seven of the Reds' first nine games after going 2-for-5 with two runs scored on Wednesday. He is hitting .316 with six runs scored, one home run, five RBI and two stolen bases.

*** MISS

Milwaukee pitcher Dave Bush is 0-2 with an 8.44 ERA after his first two starts, which coincidentally are the Brewers' only two losses of the season in eight games. In 10 2/3 innings, Bush has allowed 11 runs (10 earned) on 12 hits with eight walks and eight strikeouts.

*** HIT

The Brewers' Bill Hall has found a home at third base and rebounded from a sub-par 2007 season on offense, too. He hit a solo home run Wednesday, his fourth homer of the season. He is batting .333 (7-for-21) with four homers and eight RBI on the current home stand.

*** MISS

Brewers' closer Eric Gagne had his second blown save in three save situations on Tuesday. The rest of the bullpen joined in with a bad night on Wednesday, allowing seven runs (all earned) on eight hits with six walks and two home runs in 3 2/3 innings for a 17.18 ERA.
