What's Brewin': Hit or Miss for May 1

Dennis Semrau  —

HIT OR MISS

Fantasy stats from the Brewers-Cubs series through April 30

*** HIT
In his first start since being optioned to Triple A Nashville, Milwaukee right-hander Dave Bush went six innings and allowed three hits, including a home run, one earned run and two walks, with seven strikeouts.

*** MISS
Last week's rare save was indeed an aberration as Milwaukee reliever Derrick Turnbow was just awful again Wednesday night. He allowed six earned runs on four hits and four walks in just 2/3 of an inning. Turnbow had no control and his ERA now stands at a brutal 15.63. That includes 12 hits, 13 walks and 11 runs allowed in 6 1/3 innings. When is enough, enough Ned?

*** HIT
Chicago's 19-5 rout of Milwaukee Wednesday night was its biggest outburst since a 20-1 whipping of the Los Angeles Dodgers on May 5, 2001. It gave the Cubbies a club-record 17 victories in April. The Brewers had not allowed that many runs since they gave up 19 at Colorado on Aug. 8.

*** MISS
Milwaukee starter Jeff Suppan was terrible Wednesday night against the Cubs. He allowed 11 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, including the first of catcher Geovany Soto's two three-run homers, in just 3 2/3 innings. He needed 92 pitches to get through hit worst outing as a Brewer, which saw his ERA jump from 3.48 to 5.19. If he was in your starting lineup last night, ouch!

*** HIT
Cubs' second baseman Mark DeRosa had a great night against the Brewers on Wednesday going 2-for-3 with three walks, three runs scored and two RBI. DeRosa is hitting .297 with 3 home runs and 19 RBI with an outstanding on base percentage of .416 so far this year.

*** MISS
Brewers' lefty reliever Brian Shouse did not allow any of the first 11 runners he inherited to score this season. However, after he allowed Soto's second three-run homer in Wednesday's 19-5 loss, Shouse has now allowed six of the last seven inherited runners to score.
