What's Brewin': Eight Brewers on All-Star ballot

Dennis Semrau  —

All-Star fan balloting at Miller Park begins on Friday when the Milwaukee Brewers open a four-game series with the St. Louis Cardinals. Eight Milwaukee Brewers players are featured on the ballot for the 79th Major League Baseball All-Star Game, to be held on Tuesday, July 15 at Yankee Stadium in New York.

Fans will be able to vote through in-stadium balloting at Miller Park for Brewers players on this year's All-Star ballot. The Milwaukee Brewers listed on the ballot include: 1B Prince Fielder, 2B Rickie Weeks, SS J.J. Hardy, 3B Bill Hall, C Jason Kendall, OF Ryan Braun, OF Mike Cameron, and OF Corey Hart.

Fans may vote early and often via paper ballot at Miller Park at the All-Star polling district set up during Brewers home games along the first base concourse.  In-stadium balloting at Miller Park will continue through Saturday, June 21, covering 24 home dates.

With every ten ballots turned in to the All-Star Polling District, fans will receive one prize ticket that will enter them in a drawing for the opportunity to win a Brewers autographed baseball or autographed jersey.  A drawing will be held during every home game through June 21 and the winning ticket will be announced during the game.

Last year, the Brewers were represented by four players "“ first baseman Prince Fielder, shortstop J.J. Hardy and pitchers Ben Sheets and Francisco Cordero -- at the All-Star Game in San Francisco, which tied a club record set in 1980 and equaled in 1982 and 1983.

Fielder, who received the second most votes in the National League a year ago, became the first Brewers player voted to the All-Star Game's starting lineup since Paul Molitor was selected at third base in 1988.  Prior to Fielder, OF Jeromy Burnitz was the last Brewers player to start in the All-Star Game, filling in for an injured Tony Gwynn in 1999.

The 2008 American League and National League All-Star Teams will be announced on Sunday, July 6 on the 2008 MLB All-Star Game Selection Show.  The American League All-Star Team will have nine starters elected via the fan balloting program, while the National League All-Star Team will have eight fan-elected starters.

The pitchers and reserves for both squads - 23 for the N.L., 22 for the A.L. - will be determined through a combination of "Player Ballot" choices and selections made by the two All-Star managers - American League manager Terry Francona of the Boston Red Sox and National League manager Clint Hurdle of the Colorado Rockies - in conjunction with Major League Baseball.

Fans can vote for the Major League All-Stars online at brewers.com through Wednesday, July 2 at 10:59 CT
