Derrick Turnbow must feel like he is playing Bill Murray's character in the movie "˜Groundhog Day.'
No matter what he has tried to do, Turnbow's 2008 season has been one long nightmare.
Milwaukee Brewers assistant general manager Gord Ash confirmed during the Milwaukee Brewers batting practice on Monday at Miller Park that the Brewers' former closer has been diagnosed with a slight tear of the rotator cuff in his pitching shoulder.
Ash said Turnbow will be examined on Wednesday by team physician William Raasch in Milwaukee to determine whether he will undergo surgery or an extensive round of physical therapy.
No matter which option is chosen, though, Turnbow's 2008 season is over. Since he will be a free agent after the season, his career with the Brewers is basically over, too.
"Dr. Raasch will determine what the next step is," Ash said. "But it's been a tough year for Derrick."
Turnbow was demoted to Triple A Nashville in May after a suffering a brutal April with the Brewers. He was 0-1 with a 15.63 ERA in eight appearances covering 6 1/3 innings. He allowed 11 runs (all earned) on 12 hits with 13 walks and five strikeouts.
He continued to struggle with Nashville with 41 walks in 18 innings. In 18 appearances, he was 2-2 with a 10.50 ERA.
