Hi there. Welcome to "Dane of My Existence," a blog about entertainment, pop culture and fun happenings around Dane County.

Despite the blog's title, I am not implying that Dane County is boring and rife for existential angst. I'm just a sucker for word plays.

In truth, I think the Madison area is rich with opportunities to enjoy entertainment and I hope to use this blog as a chance to cover the beat more informally: "Meet Your Local Musician" interviews, last minute announcements, newsy tidbits and so forth.

Let it be known that I define entertainment broadly and without discrimination: everything from metal to folk music, public art to Youtube videos, SPAM-carving contests to antiquing, open mics to karaoke and air guitar championships. If we're going to talk about existentialism, then entertainment is anything that keeps it at bay.

Here's a little about me: I grew up in Madison and got my Journalism degree from Edgewood College. As a young teenager, I planned on pursuing a career in early music as a recorder player but instead discovered a love for writing at 19 with my short-lived, copy'n'pasted zine "Skorch." I live with a trio of demented but lovable cats on the southwest side.
