Murder on the dance floor

If you're in the mood for some old school rave vibes, head to the High Noon Saloon Wednesday night, July 2 at 9 p.m. for the Killer Hat Party ($3 entry).

All you need is a hat to wear and a booty to shake. And it doesn't matter what kind of hat you wear. Even a simple ball cap gets you $1 bottles of Sam Adams beer.

Organizer David Jones, aka DrJonez, saw just about everything at the first Killer Hat Party in 2005, from a Dr. Seuss hat to cowboy hats. One guy took it literally and wore a "killer hat" with a bloody ax stuck on top.

Six DJs will tag team in pairs, creating a "pretty intricate soundscape" with layered beats of mainly techno and house.

"We wanted to do something unique that brought back the vibe of the old raves without the stigma and negative atmosphere of drugs," said DrJonez.

And the hat thing is just a nonsensical, fun way for people to let loose: "Everyone loves to wear hats. It allows everyone to go crazy and have a good time."
