If you follow the gameday posts, you know that after every game, I pick three stars, continuing a great hockey tradition. It's something that I wish was more official in buildings across the WCHA. The CCHA has a great idea with this: In that league, the three stars in each game count toward an overall season award.
With that in mind, I tallied the three stars for Wisconsin over the course of the season, not counting the series at Alaska Anchorage that I didn't see. A player earned three points for being the No. 1 star, two points for being the No. 2 star and one point for being the No. 3 star. (I considered a 5-3-1 system like the CCHA uses, but thought that it was a little too top-heavy.)
Here are the results, with each player's number of No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 star selections and total points:
Shane Connelly 2-6-5 -- 23
Michael Davies 3-1-1 -- 12
Blake Geoffrion 2-2-2 -- 12
Kyle Turris 2-1-3 -- 11
Ben Street 1-2-1 -- 8
Kyle Klubertanz 2-0-1 -- 7
Josh Engel 2-0-0 -- 6
Sean Dolan 1-0-2 -- 5
Matthew Ford 0-1-2 -- 4
Patrick Johnson 1-0-1 -- 4
Jamie McBain 0-1-2 -- 4
Davis Drewiske 0-1-1 -- 3
Tom Gorowsky 1-0-0 -- 3
Ryan McDonagh 0-1-1 -- 3
Andy Bohmbach 0-1-0 -- 2
Aaron Bendickson 0-0-1 -- 1
Cody Goloubef 0-0-1 -- 1
Scott Gudmandson 0-0-1 -- 1
Keep in mind that this is the compilation of an off-the-cuff rating of players on a nightly basis. Does it mean that Connelly was the Badgers' best player this season? Not necessarily, but he did have a lot of games in which he was an important player. Interpret that as you will.
