You don't have to be a genius or a blogger (mutually exclusive items) to recognize that Ned Yost is on the clock. This is not to say that he still can't save his job or salvage the season. After all, nothing sparks nothing (a Yost toast), though Ryan Braun has sparked some lively debate and speculation on Yost's future with the Brewers.
Reportedly, there's no truth to the rumor that Milwaukee general manager Doug Melvin and Nashville manager Frank Kremblas were spotted together on the grassy knoll. I'm not sure there is a knoll in Nashville, although I'm reasonable confident that you could find some grass (read: Hippie lettuce, honky tonks and music industry).
The 41-year-old Kremblas, an Ohio native, is an interesting study. As a minor league player, he was a cliche; a jack-of-all-trades, master of none. He played every position with little or no distinction. He even pitched. As a minor league manager, he has made a name for himself within the Milwaukee organization, highlighted by his run in Double A with the Huntsville Stars, a breeding ground for the current Brewer core players.
To a large degree, Kremblas has proven his mettle as a Triple A skipper, too, guiding the Nashville Sounds to three division titles. What else does he have to prove? When it was reported that Melvin was "looking for a spark in the minors'' the general assumption was that the Brewers were considering recycling Russell Branyan.
Question is, "Was Melvin in Nashville to scout Branyan and/or Kremblas?"
If Yost doesn't make it to the finish line, maybe the spark could be Kremblas.
What do the Brewers have to lose? Besides another road series.
