Redesign: What's cookin'?

Timothy Nott  —

Latest News - new lookAlong with a bunch of minor fixes (like displaying dates on archived articles), we're working on a new display of the Latest News on the captimes.com home page. The graphic to the right shows how the new Latest would appear. Each item has a color-coded bullet to let the repeat visitor know what the most recently updated items are. We've been noting the number of minutes since updating on items posted or freshened in the last hour. But, we wanted to display more information for the visitor who comes back less frequently than once an hour.

Your thoughts?

Along the lines of Latest News, another feature under consideration is a time-based index of everything posted to the site. The default look of this page would be a vertical listing all articles posted to the site in the reverse order in which they were created (newest at the top) along with a list of any special features like photo galleries, videos, etc. The page would show info for today or the last n hours. The option to view previous days would be available. The visitor would be able to filter the list by major subject headings like News and Sports.

Would you find this helpful? Anything suggestions as to how we could make it better?
