Sun Prairie-based Wisconsin Public Power Inc. has negotiated to buy 30 megawatts of wind-produced power from a proposed wind farm set to go online in December in Iowa.
The municipal power cooperative had planned to purchase 54 megawatts of power from the Butler Ridge wind farm project in Dodge County, Wis., but instead will buy 20 megawatts from Butler Ridge and 30 megawatts from Barton Windpower LLC, builders of a 40-turbine wind farm currently under construction in Worth County, Iowa.
WPPI announced in July it will sell 33,000 megawatt hours of wind-produced energy to the state of Wisconsin to help power state-owned correctional facilities in Waupun and Boscobel and near Plymouth and University of Wisconsin campuses in River Falls, Richland Center and Menasha.
Municipal power plants in those six cities are in the WPPI cooperative.
