Basic grant policy

The Evjue Foundation, Inc. welcomes grant applications from agencies serving the greater Madison area. All proposals that show promise of contributing significantly to the welfare of the people of the community will be given careful consideration.

1. As a trust whose income is derived substantially from a business activity in the greater Madison area, the Foundation has a commitment to the people of the Madison area to give priority to the programs whose principal thrust is on that geographic area.
2. Grants are only made to nonprofit organizations which are both exempt from federal taxation under S 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are also public charities described in SS 509(a)(1), (2) or (3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
3. Grants are not made to individuals. All grants for scholarships are given to educational institutions, which have full responsibility for selecting the individual recipients.
4. Grants are not usually made to establish or add to endowment funds.
5. Grants are not ordinarily made to fund specific medical or scientific research inquiries.
6. Grants are usually not made to support operating expenses and general administrative expenses of organizations.
7. The Foundation looks favorably upon projects responding to overall community needs and priorities and which do not duplicate existing services.
8. The Foundation will operate without discrimination as to age, race, religion, sex or national origin in the consideration of grant requests from agencies and organizations.

To facilitate fair and equitable consideration of the large number of proposals received each year, grant applicants are expected to include information in their requests having to do with program objectives, impact on this community, and alternative sources of funding.
