I first saw Rocky Horror when I was about 15 years old. I was supposed to be at a slumber party, but I left in the middle of the night and snuck down to see the Rocky Horror Picture Show at the classic Cla-Zel Theatre in Bowling Green, Ohio, one of the few places where actors still perform(ed) along with the characters on the screen.
The midnight showing was one of the most shocking things my uninitiated teen mind had seen to date. The actors made all of us "Rocky virgins" crawl through their legs, during which every one of them smacked my quickly shimmying tuckus. The costumes were barely-there. People threw things. I was confused, a little nervous and completely caught up in the show.
I haven't grown up all that much, I think -- even now, more than ten years later, Rocky still manages to thrill and titillate. I am eagerly awaiting Middleton Players' stage version, The Rocky Horror Show, coming this August to the Middleton Performing Arts Center.
In the meantime, get a sneak peak of the show tonight at Lakeside Cinema on the Memorial Union Terrace. Cast members will be there to teach you how to do the Time Warp (YES!) before a free showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at 9 p.m.
It's just a jump to the left...
