UW-Madison senior Suchita Shah didn't win her first-round game on "Jeopardy!" but she survived to play into the show's second week.
Shah, a senior from Holmen, Wis., will appear on Wednesday's program after making enough money in her first-round game to earn one of the wild-card spots.
Shah led throughout much of her game that aired on Thursday, losing the lead when a contestant from the University of Michigan scored big on the Daily Double on the final question. She got the final answer, about Mozart, correct and with a conservative bet still advanced to next week's semfinal.
"I kind of knew going into the final Jeopardy that I had a good shot at the wild card spot," Shah said.
It's been a busy spring for Shah. She graduates on May 18, has had the "Jeopardy!" fame to ride and is also on the search committee for a new chancellor. Total strangers ask for her autograph.
"It's a distraction," Shah said, but one she doesn't mind. "It's fun, but it's a little embarrassing at the same time. It's very surreal."
"Jeopardy!" airs at 4:30 p.m. weekdays on Channel 15.
