Get ready for warm, sticky weather Sunday as the high pressure system that graced much of Wisconsin with blue skies and moderate temperatures this holiday weekend shifts east.
By mid-day, increasing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico could result in scattered thunderstorms and brief localized downpours in the Madison area. The storms are not expected to be serious enough to upset holiday travel.
Temperatures reached a high of 80 on Saturday but will increase to the upper 80s on Sunday and drop only into the upper 60s at night. Humidity levels will jump into the 80s as well. By Monday morning, the weather is expected to be very warm and humid with scattered thunderstorms.
The long-range forecast calls for some relief from the muggy heat when a cold front skips in Tuesday but by next weekend the area could be sizzling under a major heat wave. "We're getting back to normal, hot Wisconsin weather for July," said Andy Snyder, a meteorologist with the Weather Channel.
