A hot barbecue grill was responsible for starting a fire that seriously damaged a home in Verona Friday evening.
Five different fire departments responded to
the fire that started on the patio behind the house at 441 Dunhill
Drive.
The garage area of the home sustained most of the damage from the fire that grew so hot that it also melted the siding on a neighbor's house at 437 Dunhill.
Verona police evacuated members of homes affected by the fire as well as other nearby homes, according to Verona Police Officer D.D. Fehrman. He added that nobody was hurt.
Fehrman, who was one of the first to arrive at the fire, said the garage was already engulfed in flames when he arrived. "Me and my partner cleared the house and that's all we did,'' he said.
Besides Verona, fire departments from Oregon, Fitchburg, Mount Horeb and Belleville also responded to the alarm.
