Update: Name of motorcyclist killed on Stoughton Road released

The male motorcyclist who was killed Thursday evening when he was hit by a pickup truck that ran a red light at the intersection of Stoughton Road and Wisconsin 30 was Michael P. Hankes, 22, of Madison.

Hankes was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to Sgt. John Rife of the Madison Police Department, Hankes was traveling northbound on Stoughton Road/U.S. 51 when a truck coming down the Wisconsin 30 off-ramp went through a red light and collided with the cyclist around 6:45 p.m.

Stoughton Road was shut down at Highway 30 in both directions for several hours.
