James Madison, Olbrich beaches closed
Blue-green algae closed two city of Madison beaches Thursday.
James Madison Park beach, 621 E. Gorham St. on Lake Mendota's south shore, and Olbrich Park beach, 3330 Atwood Ave. on Lake Monona's northeast shore, are closed for swimming and will reopen when algae levels decline.
The public health department advises swimmers and pets to avoid contact with algal blooms since blue-green algae can turn toxic.
