Fundraiser for Obama set for Thursday in Madison

Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign is planning a fundraiser in Madison on Thursday night.

The campaign is inviting supporters of Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, his former rival for the Democratic nomination, to the event at Monona Terrace's community terrace from 5 to 7 p.m.

Hosts say they will ask donors to give money to help retire Clinton's multimillion-dollar campaign debt as part of an effort to unite the party for the fall election.

Mary Lang Sollinger is helping host the event. Obama's campaign lists her as one of its bundlers, who are individuals who collect money from other donors. The campaign says she has collected between $100,000 and $200,000 for the Illinois senator.

Gov. Jim Doyle is expected to attend, along with about 250 other people.
