Renovated jail chapel honors Rev. Goetz

The Dane County Jail is having a dedication service Thursday in its recently renovated chapel to honor the Rev. Delmer Goetz, who for 19 years provided counseling, advocacy and spiritual guidance to the jail's inmates and members of the Sheriff's Office staff.

As a tribute to Goetz's service, who retired in 2007, the Madison Area Lutheran Council renovated the chapel, located on the sixth floor of the City-County Building. The improvements include new carpeting, a plaque, banners, and camera and recording equipment to broadcast services to inmate housing areas. Members of the Catholic faith community also contributed to funding the renovation project.

The Madison Area Lutheran Council has sponsored the jail chaplaincy program for Dane County since 1971.
