A 42-year-old Waunakee man was killed Monday when his car crossed the center line on Highway 51 near Poynette and was hit by a semitruck carrying a load of sweet corn.
Columbia County Sheriff Dennis Richards said the preliminary investigation of the crash showed the Waunakee man's Ford Taurus crossed the center line and was hit by a truck driven by Michael Hubka, 44, of Clinton. Hubka, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Arlington EMS personnel.
The accident occurred about one mile south of Poynette and about a half-mile south of the intersection of Highway 51 and Loveland Road in the town of Arlington.
The name of the Waunakee man, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was being withheld pending notification of relatives, Richards said.
The crash, which occurred at about 11:20 a.m., closed Highway 51 between Arlington and Poynette for about four and a half hours, Richards said.
