After record high temp, cold is on way

The Capital Times  —  10/13/2008 6:09 am

Enjoy the summer-like weather Monday because colder days are right around the corner.

Following a record high of 83 Sunday and an expected high in the upper 70s Monday, temperatures will return back to the normal mid-October range in the low 60s for the balance of the week as a cold front comes through Wisconsin Monday.

The front will be accompanied by showers and thunderstorms, but the storms aren't expected to be severe, according to the National Weather Service forecast.

Isolated thunderstorms are possible over south central Wisconsin Monday afternoon and across all of southern Wisconsin Monday night. Rainfall amounts are expected to total up to a quarter-inch, but heavier amounts are possible during thunderstorms.

Rain will clear out during the overnight hours, making way for a sunny but cool Tuesday, according to Weather Central meteorologist Brian Olson.

More rain could come through Wednesday, and rain is also in the forecast Thursday night, Friday morning, Saturday night and Sunday morning, with highs only topping out in the mid to upper 50s Wednesday through Sunday.

Sunday's record high of 83 was 21 degrees above normal, tying the record for Oct. 12 set in 1995.
