Bill Dunn is a self-effacing kind of guy -- and one whose multiple talents have made the difference in many departments, doing many tasks at The Capital Times. He's been a proofreader par excellence; a paginator who always found the perfect quote to fill out the page; a master of trivia, puns, and head fitting (writing a telling headline to fit the space allotted). He's been our solver of problems from lost crossword puzzles to missing bridge graphics.
He's also been the mostly invisible guy behind many of our readers' favorite features over the years: the "Savvy Snapshot" about working women, "Look Who's Minding the Store" pet photos, the full page monthly Lifestyle calendar of quirky holidays and celebrations.
In Bill's weekly "FYI" column he answered readers' quirky questions, using that platform to display his "unflaggingly indefatigable curiosity and love of wordplay," as he once declared. He also penned many a story shedding light on local responses to George Bush, the Iraq war, separation of church and state (or lack thereof) and injustice as he perceived it.
For those of us who have worked with Bill -- and especially those who've sat near him -- we will especially miss his wry and dry sense of humor and his sotto voce commentary on all things newsy and newsworthy.
