Linda Brazill may be best know to current readers of The Capital Times as the writer whose descriptions of gardening have added a lyrical beauty to the Saturday paper. But in her 18 years at the newspaper, she has had a hand and a voice in many parts of the daily newspaper that has been delivered to your doorstep.
Linda began at the Cap Times in 1990 as a graphic artist, but she was not new to the newspaper operation. She had worked for seven years in the Madison Newspapers creative services department, and while there, she wrote a weekly column for the Cap Times starting in 1983 called "The Artful Shopper." That column actually had its origins back in the early 1980s, when she wrote for a bi-weekly publication called City Lights.
Her sense of artistry came through both in her designs for newspaper pages and in her shopping advice for readers. In 1999 , she moved into a different area of the newspaper's operation when she became an editorial writer and later, editorial page editor. Her work with people who wanted to share their opinions with our readers as well as her own opinion columns helped advance the public dialogue on many controversial topics.
Then in 2002, she moved into her current role as editor of the Lifestyle section, overseeing our features, arts and culture coverage. Her gardening writing was the most identifiable part of her work, but readers experienced her influence each day when they turned to the features pages.
