Arc-Dane County honors volunteers

The Arc-Dane County, an advocacy organization with the mission of ensuring the rights of all children and adults with developmental disabilities in Dane County, honored its volunteers at the recent 58th Annual Awards Banquet at the Madison Concourse Hotel.

This year's self-advocate award went to Peggy Fleming. Special recognition awards cited Lasisi Ibrahim and Ron Braem. The community support honor went to Jenessa Wareham, while Advertisers Press Inc. was cited for its corporate support of the organization.

John Leemkuil was named volunteer of the year, and Amy Wederath received the educator-teacher of the year honors. Econoprint (Verona) and Vita Plus Corp. were recognized for outstanding employer support to the people with developmental disabilities. Bethsaida Family Home received the home of the year honor while Margie Anderson and Joanne O'Meara received outstanding caregiver honors.

U.S. Rep. Tammy Baldwin, D-Madison, was named the outstanding elected official. The annual president's award went to Ron Johnson while Joan and Bill Burns were honored for lifetime achievement.
