The Federal Emergency Management Agency is opening the state's third disaster recovery center Wednesday in Soldiers Grove in Crawford County. The center is located at North Crawford High School on County X.
The second center opened Tuesday in Viroqua at the Living Faith Church at 852 Main St. A recovery center in Reedsburg opened Monday at the city's high school.
All of the centers will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. More recovery centers will open later this week, according to FEMA spokesperson Hannah Vick.
Flood victims who wish to visit the recovery centers are asked to register for assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 1-800-462-7585 or visit www.fema.gov.
Services available at specific centers will vary. At the Reedsburg center, representatives from FEMA, the American Red Cross and the Small Business Administration are on hand to assist flood victims with any questions they may have regarding relief opportunities. The center also has a food pantry operated by Second Harvest. Sauk County Human Services is offering free counseling, and officials from Sauk County Zoning are available to help people complete permit applications. The IRS is distributing claim forms and information on tax credits.
Other county agencies at the Reedsburg center include the Ag Extension, the Commission on Aging, and Public Health. The Humane Society, Project Recovery and the Central Wisconsin Community Action Council are also available.
Officials from FEMA and other government organizations will begin preliminary damage assessments Thursday for public properties in Dane, Grant, Vernon, Adams and Milwaukee counties.
Representatives from various state and federal agencies will join FEMA officials to inspect roads, wastewater treatment plants, bridges and government buildings.
