Another all-time high for Wisconsin gas prices

People traveling during the Fourth of July weekend will likely be paying record prices for gas.

Both the state and national average price for a gallon of gas hit all-time highs Friday.

The average price of gas in Wisconsin reached $4.075 per gallon for regular unleaded, slightly higher than the previous record of $4.068 set Thursday.

The national average price for a gallon of regular unleaded reached $4.101 Friday, breaking the previous record of $4.098, also set Thursday.

Gas prices have climbed every day this week.

Among Wisconsin's five metro areas, Milwaukee has the highest average gas price at $4.161. The Eau Claire area has the second-highest prices at $4.077. In Madison, the average climbed to $4.011.

Alaska and California have the highest gas prices in the nation. The average price for a gallon in Alaska is $4.62. In California it is $4.57 per gallon. At $3.89 per gallon, South Carolina has the lowest average gas prices in the country.

One year ago, the average price for a gallon of gas in Madison was $3.05 per gallon.
