Two men who attempted to rob the ticket counter and the concession stand at Eastgate Cinemas Sunday night have been arrested and are in jail.
Robert T. Doucette, 30, and Samuel D. Lemanski, 20, both of Madison, entered the theater at 5202 High Crossing Boulevard together around 7 p.m., according to police.
Doucette took the cash drawers and ran in the direction of American TV across High Crossing Boulevard, police said, but he was caught and tackled by two security guards, cinema employees and an off-duty police deputy who was planning on watching on a movie.
Doucette, who police said had a loaded gun, is being charged with armed robbery and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Court records show Doucette was convicted of armed robbery in 1998 and has recently spent time in prison.
Lemanski attempted to grab the cash drawer from the concession area, police said, but he was stopped by cinema employees and people in the area. He is being charged with strong armed robbery and battery.
Police said the investigation is ongoing.
