Authorities identified one drowning victim and continued to search for a missing swimmer in two separate incidents Sunday on Lake Monona.

The drowning victim has been identified as Juan K. Cathey, 36, Milwaukee.

Cathey's body was recovered from Lake Monona near Law Park and the Monona Terrace Convention Center on Sunday morning.

At about 10:15 a.m., a caller reported seeing an individual floating off the shoreline in the area, said the Dane County Sheriff's Office.

Members of the Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Unit and the Dane County Sheriff's Office Marine and Trail Unit responded to find a male submerged, just off the shoreline. Cathey was pronounced dead at the scene by the Coroner's Office, which had been called to the scene about 10:30 a.m.

The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death was continuing, but investigators said there's no indication of foul play.

The rescue unit and dive team were called out to Lake Monona again at about 6 p.m. Sunday to look for a Cottage Grove man reported missing while swimming in the Law Park area.

Erik J. Jansen, 40, was out with a group of friends on two boats when he apparently went for a swim and never returned to the boats.

Divers searched for Jansen until about 10 p.m. Sunday but didn't find him. They resumed the search Monday morning.
