Mobile video led to Stoughton man's arrest for sex with minor

A Stoughton man was named in an arrest warrant issued Friday for having sex with a 17-year-old girl last New Year's Eve, an event that was apparently recorded on the cell phone of another partygoer, saved as a video file and shown to students at Stoughton High School.

Shayne M. Hosli, 29, is charged in the warrant and complaint with a misdemeanor count of having sexual intercourse with a child. It is illegal in Wisconsin for an adult to have sex with a person under 18, even if it is consensual. If convicted Hosli could face up to nine months in jail and a $10,000 fine.

There is no indication in the complaint against Hosli of whether the 15-year-old who took the videos with his cell phone at the party would be prosecuted for the event. It is illegal to take nude pictures of others without their consent in Wisconsin.

The 17-year-old girl told police she had several drinks at the party at a home on Jackson Street in Stoughton, including a couple shots of Grey Goose vodka and eight shots of Captain Morgan rum. She told police she remembers going upstairs to a bedroom with Hosli, but doesn't remember much after that. The complaint says the girl also told police she had consensual sex with Hosli the last time he was home on leave from the military, about a year earlier.

Police confiscated a cell phone from a 15-year-old at the party, and video on that phone shows a naked woman on top of a naked man on a bed having sex. Others in the room, including the boy taking the video, appear to be yelling encouragement to the couple, such as "go, go, go," the complaint says.

The girl on the bed says in a laughing voice, "Yes, I'm trying to have sex," the complaint says, while at another point a person's hand appears to be trying to give a high five to one of the couple on the bed.

There appear to be three people in the room other than the couple, but they all leave after the couple yells at them to get out, the complaint says.

The girl told police she did not know the sexual encounter had been video recorded by cell phone until her ex-boyfriend called her to say he had seen the video on another student's cell phone at Stoughton High School.

It appears from the complaint that at least two students had the video on their cell phones and were showing it to other students at the school last school year.
