Have the "bandana bandits" been caught?
Two men were arrested shortly after midnight Friday after one allegedly held up the PDQ convenience store at 4202 Milwaukee St. on Madison's east side, about an hour after a suspect tried to rob the Red Roof Inn at 4830 Hayes Road on Thursday night.
Police spokesman Joel DeSpain wouldn't say if the two are the bandits, but the method used in the two robberies was similar to seven holdups since mid-April on Madison's east side, with the suspects in those robberies known for wearing red bandanas over their faces.
Scott Andruss, 18, Madison, was arrested and tentatively charged with armed robbery while Curtis Langlois, 27, Madison, was arrested and tentatively charged with a parole violation.
"Police officers at the scene of the Red Roof Inn attempted robbery were still in the area when the PDQ armed robbery was reported," DeSpain said. "One of those officers spotted a car with suspects matching the descriptions of the perpetrators inside."
The PDQ was robbed by a suspect holding a knife, and the Red Roof Inn's suspect also used a knife in the attempted robbery.
Suspects in three holdups at Red Letter News, two holdups at the Super 8 Motel and two at the Howard Johnson hotel also used knives in the armed robberies. It isn't known if the two arrested wore bandanas.
