In the wake of the second stranger sexual assault this week, Madison police are warning residents to take security precautions.
A woman was sexually assaulted in her home in
the 5100 block of Camden Road on the east side Thursday night, by a
man who entered the residence through an unlocked door, Madison
Police Sgt. Jennifer Krueger Favour said Friday.
"All citizens are encouraged to lock their doors and windows, even while at home, and close their blinds in the evenings," Krueger Favour said in a press release Friday afternoon.
Police are investigating the sexual assault, which occurred at about 10:50 p.m., and are searching for the suspect in the case who is said to be about 6-feet tall, weighing 250 pounds and wearing a gray sweatshirt.
The man entered the woman's unlocked front door, confronted her and sexually assaulted her, police said.
Anyone with information on that assault is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 266-6014.
The assault was the second of the day in Madison. In the early morning hours Thursday, a man sexually assaulted a 26-year-old woman after abducting her near the intersection of Gilman and State streets.
Oscar Elliot, 33, of Milwaukee was arrested shortly after the assault and cash bail of $20,000 was set Friday in a hearing before Dane County Court Commissioner Todd Meurer.
Elliot, who is expected to be formally charged in the case next week, is accused of grabbing the woman at about 2 a.m. and taking her to a secluded area nearby where he sexually assaulted her and took items from her.
The woman was able to contact a police officer nearby shortly after the incident, and Elliot was quickly arrested.
Police said the victim and Elliot did not know each other before the assault, nor did the Camden Road victim know her assailant.
Elliot was booked into jail on tentative charges of kidnapping, sexual assault and strong armed robbery.
Assistant District Attorney Michael Verveer asked for substantial cash bail in the case, citing the violence of the attack on the woman.
The bail will remain in effect until Elliot's initial appearance next week, when it will be reviewed.
The search is still on for the Camden Road assailant.
