A 59-year-old Madison bicyclist was seriously injured early Wednesday morning after being struck by a pickup truck in the town of Verona.
The Dane County Sheriff's Office said the hit and run accident occurred about 6:30 a.m. on Fitchrona Road near Grandview Road.
The bicyclist was southbound on Fitchrona Road when he attempted to make a left turn, while the driver of the pickup, also southbound, tried to pass the bike on the left, striking the bicyclist before the pickup truck driver left the scene of the crash.
The bicyclist was taken to UW Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The dark-colored pickup truck was pulling a flatbed trailer that possibly contained lawn equipment.
The crash is under investigation by the sheriff's office.
