A Beloit man was arrested Friday evening after allegedly throwing a large stone repeatedly at the glass doors and windows of the Rock County Sheriff's Office to see if they were bulletproof.
Officers received a report of a male throwing rocks at the front entrance of the building and found Jeffrey M. Hansen, 51, of rural Beloit, in the lobby, according to a release from the sheriff's office. Hansen gave himself up, holding out his wrists to officers, and admitted to causing the damage, telling officers to handcuff and arrest him, the release says.
Hansen told officers he threw the rocks to see if the glass was bulletproof, according to the release. Officers investing the incident found chips in the glass panes. Ten people from a jail tour were in the lobby during the alleged incident.
Hansen was arrested for reckless endangering safety, criminal damage to property and disorderly conduct and is being held at the Rock County Jail until his initial court appearance Monday.
