Dane County got an A in reducing ozone pollution, but several Lake Michigan lakeshore counties didn't fare as well on air quality, in the 2008 air quality report released Thursday by the American Lung Association.
Dane, Ashland, Florence, Forest, Oneida, Outagamie, Sauk, Vilas and Washington counties received A's for reduced ozone pollution, while Door, Kenosha, Manitowoc, Milwaukee, Ozaukee and Sheboygan counties got F's. The F's for ozone were in counties on the Lake Michigan shoreline.
"While Lake Michigan tends to trap pollution in place, it is encouraging to see better scores in some counties," said Dona Wininsky in a statement from the American Lung Association of Wisconsin.
Dane County also received a passing grade in fine particle pollution, one of 14 counties getting a passing grade of the 33 counties in Wisconsin included in the report card.
