Sen. Barack Obama's camp Tuesday named Dan Kanninen, a former state legislative staffer, to head the Wisconsin campaign.

The state organization will also include as state political director Tim Mahone, the political director of Gov. Jim Doyle's successful 2006 re-election campaign, and veteran press secretary Phillip Walzak as its communications director.

Both Kanninen and Mahone worked with the Obama campaign during the Illinois Democrat's Wisconsin primary victory, Mahone as a senior adviser and Kanninen as a political strategist. Kanninen, a former chief of staff for state Sen. Bob Jauch, D-Poplar, also worked for Obama in primaries in North Carolina and Ohio.

Walzak worked as a press secretary for former U.S. Rep. Jerry Kleszka and former U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett, continuing to work for Barrett as a senior staff adviser after Barrett's election as mayor of Milwaukee. He also directed U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl's 2006 re-election campaign.
