A traffic stop on the Beltline Monday afternoon mushroomed into a seven-vehicle crash, with only one person suffering minor injuries.
The crash happened about 1 p.m. in the eastbound lanes between the John Nolen Drive and Rimrock Road exits.
According to town of Madison police, a town police officer on speed enforcement duty nabbed a speeder in the left lane of the freeway, with the driver abruptly pulling over to the median to stop.
The officer pulled over behind the speeder, but other vehicles started to swerve and crash, eventually collecting the speeder, the squad car and a tow truck carrying two vehicles.
The only injury was to the speeder, who will be getting a speeding ticket.
The speed enforcement effort on the Beltline, according to the incident release from the town of Madison police, is to "slow traffic on the Beltline, reduce crashes and the severity of a crash if one occurs."
