First Afghanistan, then Iraq, and now Iran?

Peace activists are mobilizing Tuesday night to discuss the possibility of war in Iran, hoping to raise awareness of the threat of war while also looking at ways to avoid it.

The town hall meeting starts at 7 p.m. in Lowell Hall on the UW-Madison campus, 610 Langdon St., Room B1-A/D.

Local experts will tackle the Iran crisis from different angles.

UW faculty member and Iranian-born Joe Elder will talk about the history of U.S. policy toward Iran, historian and author Allen Ruff will cover current US covert operations in Iran, Jewish Voice activist Tsela Barr will explain the Jewish role in the Middle East conflict, physician Jeff Patterson will look at the nuclear issue and UW faculty member and Iranian-American Majid Sarmadi will cover why we shouldn't attack Iran.

"We the people must stand up and take action now," said activists Joy First and Bonnie Block in a press release announcing the town hall meeting. "The consequences of war with Iran would be devastating for the world, make oil prices skyrocket, further waste U.S. resources on war instead of funding urgent domestic needs and might well further endanger our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan."
