Fire destroyed a home in the town of Berry early Wednesday morning, with the owner and his dog able to get out safely.
The fire was at 6216 Old Settlers Road, about four miles east of the village of Mazomanie, in the home of Kevin Thornton.
Thornton was alerted to the fire about 3 a.m. when smoke alarms went off inside the house, according to a report from the Dane County Sheriff's Office.
Fire departments from Mazomanie, Middleton, Cross Plains and Black Earth responded to the blaze. The house was engulfed in flames when the first fire department units arrived.
The house is considered a complete loss, but no damage estimate was given. The cause of the fire is undetermined and remains under investigation.
